Citizen Public House & Oyster Bar Review

Citizen Public House & Oyster Bar
My Opinions: Another nice restaurant addition to this area.  They did a great job with the layout. There is a nice amount of bar space, with standing room on one side and seats on the other, and dining room tables on the perimeter. The lighting is low and the vibe is friendly with a chic-casual crowd.

I believe this is the first place I've found with a shot section on the drink menu. In the spirit of things, I had my first "pickleback" shot ... curiosity quelled. Next on my to-drink list is their punch bowl mixtures.

This place has a nice variety of food, whiskey labels, and you can even book a pig roast. I guess roasts are not just for the summer time any more!

         Try:  Ribeye Roast

    Jer-Ne Restaurant & Bar Review

Jer-Ne Restaurant & Bar at the Ritz Carlton Boston
My Opinions:  I came here for dinner before seeing a movie next door. It's such a convenient spot located just off of the Common.  They have good food and a decent wine list. The atmosphere is dimly lit and comfortable. The service is friendly, but not very formal. Also, the kitchen is a bit slow getting the food out, so plan ahead.

The bar scene is typically a more mature crowd primarily consisting of locals mixed with some travelers staying at the Ritz Carlton. I really wish they'd revamp the menu more often.

    Gari Restaurant Review

    Gari Japanese Fusion
My Opinions:  What a nice lazy Sunday I had. We watched the Food Network (The Best Thing I Ever Ate marathon) and ordered lunch in.  I was pleasantly surprised that the food quality Gari put out on their delivery was just as good as what you get in their restaurant. It arrived soon after I ordered - the sushi was fresh and the hot foods were hot.

The luncheon specials are a great deal. I will definitely order from them again!

    Oak Bar Review

Oak Bar @ Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel
My Opinions:  It was really busy in the bar tonight with a nice variety of people from ages 35 and up.

The service is formal, but slow unless you manage to finagle a seat at the tiny bar. There are plenty of table throughout the lounge - I like to sit by the windows. They sometimes have live music, but call to find out the schedule because there wasn't any this evening.

The food is good at both the bar and in the restaurant but lately the restaurant hasn't been up to snuff, so I choose to dine elsewhere, but this is a great pre or post dinner spot. I do like the dining room layout and formal decor, so I hope the kitchen will pull it together in 2011.

         Try:  Chateaubriand - Artichoke Dip
         Skip: Lamb Lollipops

Some Food/Drink Tasted:  Crab Cakes - Calamari - Beet Salad – Shrimp Cocktail – Baby Iceberg Wedges – Tableside Oak Room Chateaubriand – Club Cut New York Steak – Artichoke Dip – Panini – Center Cut Filet

Island Creek Oyster Bar Restaurant Review

    Island Creek Oyster Bar
My Opinions:  What a great interior! I can't believe this is the same space Great Bay was in (RIP Great Bay). Be sure to get a close-up of the far back wall made up of all oyster shells.

The newly elongated bar was packed with a great crowd, the lounge tables were full and the dining room was running smoothly. I experienced great service at the bar and then in the dining room. The raw bar is the best around and the food is good. To be fair, the two deserts I tried were not very good, a bit dry and flavorless, so save the calories or go somewhere else. And rounding out the offerings, they have a great wine list and cocktail menu.

As long as oysters remain plentiful and fresh, I hope to see this place stay around for a long time. Go SHUCKING!

Try: Oysters on the Half Shell
         Skip: Desserts

    Patronage Inclination: Occasion

    Clink Bar Review

    Clink @ Liberty Hotel
My Opinions: This is a great spot for cocktails - especially if you're "single and ready to mingle"!

The crowd is handsome, well dressed, and diverse. The opened circular floor plan is liberating. Tonight was no exception, the music was hot, the crowd was thick and the drinks were strong ... it's not nearly as claustrophobic as Alibi (I went in and out in about 5 minutes tonight). You can not go wrong coming here on the weekend, and it's even a safe bet during the week.  I'd still skip the restaurant though.  Eat downstairs at Scampo or somewhere close by if you're hungry.

They do a good job hosting special events like art showings and fashion shows during the week to keep it interesting. Don't miss the Vuvee Cliquot menu, and I dare you to purchase the Key Cocktail ... it's bound to be memorable, so share your experience on my blog!

Some Food/Drink Tasted: Sampler of American Charcuterie – Frisee Salad – Wild Boar – Pappardelle Pasta – Organic Chicken

    Menton Restaurant Review

    Menton Restaurant
My Opinions: The last time I was here, the food was great per usual, but I was worried that the service was going down hill since we all felt a bit smothered. Tonight, it was back to normal ... attentive, but not overbearing. (Phew!)

I still wish their "lounge" could feel more like its own entity (maybe a partition to hide the host stand), but the bar, Drink, is just next door. As far as Menton's interior goes, I love the frosted white glass lighting, and the generous space between the tables offered privacy - yes, the pre-fix pricing is not cheap, but neither is the food. They also have a delicious and comprehensive wine list to pair with the meal. I have yet to taste the add-on truffle option, so it's something I can try next time.

From the amuse bouche to the cheese cart, the food is top-notch! I enjoyed the 4-course option again, plus an added cheese plate, and I was really impressed with everything ... I just hope they keep working on making tastier deserts. I'm looking forward to coming here again soon.
