Post 390 Bar & Restaurant Review

POST 390
My Opinions:  I finally made it back here to meet up with a friend, and it was still quite busy with an eclectic mix of business professionals, travelers and locals. I haven't reordered any food here (Grill 23 is 1 block away), but the mixed drinks are not too shabby and they have a decent wine/beer list.

The bartenders are qualified and friendly, and the bar layout is social (reminiscent of Sonsie's) with lots of stools at the bar and a few high tops nearby. I like the inviting ambiance, especially the fire pits in the colder months. Another plus for Post 390 is its location - situated close to the Park Plaza, not only does this place offer valet, there's plenty of on-street parking around here (helps you save a little cash); I've never had a problem getting a metered spot within a 1-block radius.

Menton Restaurant Review

Menton Restaurant
My Opinions: When I think of a Valentine's Day outing, I think of having dinner at Menton ... so that's just what I did.

I was pleasantly surprised that they didn't increase their pre fix price by much. The service was perfectly formal (per usual) and the food was delicious. From their extensive wine list, I was hoping to get the same bottle of sparkling Rose that I drank last time, but found out that their list changes fairly frequently, so we got something comparable and I was not disappointed.

I didn't get a chance to stop by Drink, below next door, so maybe next time. Thanks for the great meal and take-away bag of the dried tea bag - a thoughtful finishing touch (I believe they sell the same product in Sportello's cafe section).

Cigar Masters Bar Review

Cigar Masters
My Opinions:  After my delicious Abe & Louie's bunch, we stopped by for a cigar and ended up staying until diner time. (No, I didn't go back to Abe & Louie's for that, but I did consider it!)

We enjoyed a lot of sparkling wine, a Java Cigar and a Rocky Patel. I was hoping they had my Classic Mint Nat Sherman cigarettes in stock, but I was out of luck on that one.

I would like the Sunday music selection to be better, but, even still, it's always a fun time here. They have a decent wine/beer list, there's good conversation, comfy couches in the front and back, a handsome crowd, and friendly cocktail waitresses. Also, the humidor sells a nice variety of smoke accessories, cigars and cigarettes with a knowledgeable attendant that can assist you with any questions.

Abe & Louie's Restaurant & Bar Review

Abe & Louie's
My Opinions:  I had the pleasure of treating my friend to a birthday brunch here, and she loved it! Even though they were out of their breakfast breads, and I was not a fan of the server/service, we had a nice meal with a good Blanc de Noir. I was thankful the kitchen put this surprise birthday "cake" together for her (sooo much better than cake).

I can always expect to have a relaxing brunch here with attentive service and a great ambiance. It was nice to see the restaurant bustling with the ever-fashionable Back Bay crowd; I could come here every weekend. See you soon, Abe & Louie's!

Try:  Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes - Bacon Cheeseburger - Bone-In Filet Mignon

Sel de la Terre Bar & Restaurant Review

SEL DE LA TERRE
My Opinions:  Even though I'm partial to the 1st location at Rowes Wharf, I am warming up to this new Back Bay restaurant.

The service is decent, the food is fresh and flavorful, and they have 2 bars here. The downstairs area is great for socializing or some shared appetizers, and has a relaxed atmosphere of hightop tables and barstools. Upstairs is the main dining room and the bar is great for a single diner or simply something low keyed.

To Note: You can get in to the 2nd floor via the Prudential Towers, through the Mandarin Oriental's common space.

Some Food/Drink Tasted:  Oysters - Mixed greens - Eggplant - Goat Cheese puree – Pork Pate – Beef Short Rib – Grilled Hanger Steak Frites – Grilled ham and Cheese – Brunch Breads – Brioche French Toast – Quiche - Chocolate Molten Fondant Cake

ChampionsGate Golf Club Review

ChampionsGate Golf Club
My Opinions:  This was my first opportunity to golf in 2011, so I was elated before I even got out today (bonus that I never played this course). I will certainly play here again.

From the valet - to the pro shop - to the starter, the staff here was very polite and friendly. The grounds were well manicured, the cart was GPS enabled, which is always helpful when figuring the distance to the flag, and the scenery was beautiful. It's a spread out course, with a lot of sand but minimal water, and even the occasional beer cart.

Be warned: the food is not good at Piper's Grill, so have a drink here, but eat elsewhere (for your stomach's sake).

    Caliterra Restaurant & Bar Review

Caliterra Bar & Grille at the Hilton
My Opinions: I finally made it to the breakfast buffet and ... it was delicious!

They didn't have as many food items as they use to, but they did offer the necessities such as pastries, fresh fruit, bacon and eggs, and copious amounts of coffee. The service was great and you didn't feel rushed at all.

The best thing about this breakfast spot is that they offer it every day. I will definitely come back for more.

Try:  Spinach Tortellini - Heirloom Tomato Salad
         Skip:  Filet Mignon Sandwich

Some Food/Drink Tasted: Breakfast Buffet - Sliders - Cheese Fries - Spinach Tortellini Pasta - Chicken lettuce Wraps – Mediterranean Pizza - Wild Mushroom Pizza – Pepperoni Pizza – Heirloom Tomato Salad – Filet Mignon Sandwich – Penne with Shrimp - Chicken Panini – Turkey Panini - Cookies & Ice Cream - Tiramisu - Strawberry Shortcake

No. 9 Park Restaurant & Bar Review

    No. 9 Park
My Opinions: This a great restaurant just off of the Boston Common. The view by the windows overlooks the Boston Common, so request one of those tables when possible.

The food is consistently tasty, Chef Barbara Lynch does a great job. (I am also a huge fan of Menton.) I always like when a restaurant offers a bar menu along with their full dining room menu, and theirs does not disappoint. The service is always attentive and formal.

The bar area is small, and the social scene can be good though it varies. Not only is the wine list comprehensive, the mixologists are phenomenal! They make creative cocktails with unique and quality ingredients. Don't miss getting a drink with the huge hand-chiseled round ball of ice that fits perfectly in their old-fashioned glasses.

         Try:  Venison
         Skip:  Bete Noire

Some Food/Drink Tasted:  Oysters on the Half - Hearts of Palm – Foie Gras – Pekin Duck – Petite Sirloin – Venison – Chocolate Gateaux – Glace du Jour - Cremeux - Chocolate Bete Noire

    P.F. Chang's Restaurant & Bar Review

    P.F. Chang's China Bistro
My Opinions:  After digging my car out from a blizzard, I needed some sustenance, and what better way than to treat myself with tasty Chinese food and a full bar. Thankfully, this restaurant was opened!

The food is cooked consistently well. The service is good, even though the wait for your table, reservation or not, can be long. The ambiance is social and semi-casual with simple Asian decor.  The bar is small and can be fun, but it tends to feel a bit too crowded for me during weekend nights. I'd like to come back and try their happy hour menu.

My menu secret: order steamed rice with your lettuce wrap appetizer ... they taste even better with warm rice instead of dry crunch noodles.

Try:   Mongolian Beef - Great Wall of Chocolate
         Skip:  n/a

Some Food/Drink Tasted: Chang’s Chicken Lettuce Wraps – Dumplings – Egg Drop Soup – Chang’s Spicy Chicken – Mu Shu Chicken – Sesame Chicken – Kung Pao Chicken – Mongolian Beef – Beef a la Sichuan – The Great Wall of Chocolate – Mini Desserts
