Puff the Magic Bar Review

Puff the Magic
My Opinions: I adore this establishment and its owner ... David is always working when I go in, and he makes you feel welcomed. The walk-in humidor has a great selection of cigars, loose tobacco and cigarettes, then their counter is complete with pipes, lighters, cutters, etc. You can get all your smoking needs met here. They don't serve food, but they do host a full bar that includes  (but not limited to) wine, tequila, and cognac.

The atmosphere is friendly with piano music, comfy seating, and games to play while you can unhurriedly enjoy your drink/smoke - there's even a front porch to sit on in the nice weather.

When you visit, don't forget to look up and appreciate the unique ceiling that makes you wish you could lie down on it!

Troquet Restaurant & Bar Review

Troquet
My Opinions: I went for a cheese plate desert here tonight and sat at the downstairs bar. It was great fun, and their newest bartender was friendly and accommodating. Though this bar is small, it offers great people-watching since it's by the front window.

If you like cheese plates, this is one of my first suggestions. They do an impressive job hosting a wide variety to choose from, and I've found that they know how to store it well, so the Formaggio Kitchen-procured cheeses doesn't loose their quality and texture.  Some places either over-chill the cheese or they dry out. [Other restaurants in the area that offer great cheese plates are Marliave and Menton.]

Try:  Black Sea Bass - Short Rib Canneloni - Cheese Plate
     Skip:  Pig

Some Food/Drink Tasted:  Cheese Plate - Black Sea Bass - Marinated Beet Salad – Ricotta Cavatelli – Crispy Duck Confit – Short Rib Canneloni – Roasted Suckling Pig – Veal – Hazelnut Mille - Sticky Toffee - Pistachio Souffle

Sorellina Restaurant & Bar Review

Sorellina
My Opinions:  I was glad to see this place hopping on a Thursday evening - go Sorellina!

My meal tonight started with some fairly-priced champagne and oysters on the half shell (Duxbury) that were fantastic.  I was disappointed that they took my favorite appetizer/side, the eggplant gratinata, off the menu, but the roasted beets were delicious!  The filet was fresh and flavorful, but their duck dish was rather tough and, I hate to say it but, a bit dry. This is not the norm here, so perhaps it was an unlucky cut.

This has been one of my favorite restaurants in Boston for years. The service and food is top-notch, and the atmosphere is airy, attractive, and clean (the large black/white photo by the wine wall reminds me of Opus One in Napa, CA). The bar is small to mid-size and can be fun, but the scene does vary.

Try:  Filet Mignon - Oysters on the half shell - Roasted Beets
     Skip:  Duck - Zeppole

Some Food/Drink Tasted: Oysters - Roasted Late Summer Beets - Foie Gras – Arugula – Carpaccio - Insalata - Verdure – Maccheroncelli – Filet Mignon – Ribeye – Chicken – Duck - Eggplant Gratinata – Ciambelle – Cioccolato – Semifreddo - Tiramisu - Zeppole

M Bar Review

M Bar at the Mandarin Oriental
My Opinions: They have started a great happy-hour offering M-Th here (buy two signature cocktails and get a free small pizza). I tried their chicken pizza, and it was good! This is a great after-work spot now that the colder weather is upon us. The weekends are still quite busy with people dressed up and ready to flirt.

I also got to see my favorite bar manager, Ari, again. I've had a great time working with him on signature cocktails for several private party events already.

M Bar offers quality brand beers and liquors that you don’t commonly find. The bartenders are great, knowledgeable and friendly. Cheers!

Hawthorne Tavern Restaurant & Bar Review

Hawthorne Tavern @ Hawthorne Hotel
My Opinions: You know what's not spooky? ... this place! Today was my first time here, located just off of Salem Common, and I felt comfortable right away. I absolutely loved the seating, the friendly staff, the crackling fireplace (and the food's delicious and affordable too!).

I hope to come back and try more of the menu; I really want to experience the Sunday Jazz Brunch.

    Peapod Service Review

    Peapod by Stop & Shop

My Opinions: I have come to trust and appreciate this food delivery service since moving into a Boston apartment where close parking is hard to come by. It's difficult for me to carry heavy bags, and I don't like to make multiple trips, so this is a perfect service for me.  They bring everything up to my apartment, and not just to the front door of my building.

I was initially concerned with ordering fresh items like fruits and vegetables because I was not there to pick out the freshest looking ones, but they have done a nice job. I have never gotten anything that was bruised or expired. I also like their customer retention program, product information, online specials, and discounted delivery times.

My only hope is that they continue to add to the on-line inventory of items they typically have in stock at the store. I recommend giving this a try (don't forget to tip the delivery person!).
