Sea Grille Restaurant Review

Sea Grille @ Boston Harbor Hotel
My Opinions: The picture to my right is the view I had from my outside dinner table tonight. During the summer, I always look forward to the series of live entertainment on the barge, and tonight didn't disappoint!

This is a top-notch place, and even though the restaurant name changed this year, it is still one of my favorite places to dine at. From the valet to the servers, you get exceptional service. The food is delicious, just like in the Meritage and Wharf Bar, and they have a great wine list. Chef Daniel Bruce is one of my favorites around (and he's so nice!).

Some Food/Drink Tasted: Afternoon Tea - Maki Special - Baby Arugula Salad Warm Goat Cheese Cake - Endive, Radicchio and Watercress Salad - Flash Fried Calamari - Sirloin Carpaccio Mache - Pan Seared Jonah Crab Cakes - Pan Roasted Halibut - Grilled Atlantic Swordfish Medallion - Grilled Prime Sirloin Steak - Dark Chocolate Flourless Cake - Belgian Style Waffle with Chantilly Cream - Egg Sandwich on a Griddled Croissant - Eggs Benedict - Tropical Fruit Medley

Rowes Wharf Bar Review

Rowes Wharf Bar @ the Boston Harbor Hotel
My Opinions:  After enjoying the Blues Barge performance while dining outside, I adjourned here for dessert and a cocktail.  I sat at the table pictured on the right and it was quite comfy with a good view of the bar televisions. Tonight, I discovered their extensive list of champagne drinks that were creative (and delicious)!

I typically dine at the Sea Grille and Meritage for their view and menu, but, even though you don't get the view, the Wharf Bar does not disappoint and it offers a more casual atmosphere if you're so inclined. The food is fresh and well seasoned here, and the service is of the same caliber as in Meritage. The bar is well stocked and accommodating for the single diner/drinker.

Some Food/Drink Tasted: Grilled Pizza - Bar Seafood Tasting Plate - Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass - Cheeseburger with Buttermilk Fried Onion Rings - Warm Bartlett Pear Crisp - New York Cheese Cake

Tugboats Restaurant & Bar Review

Tugboats
My Opinions:  I've been coming here since I was a little girl. This restaurant offers a great view in the Hyannis Marina. There's plenty of parking, plenty of seating, and plenty of bar stools.

This used to be a bit more upscale, but it's still a decent spot to eat at, and it is perfect to get some drinks. The service is just okay, so go with relaxed expectations. To the right is a picture I took tonight with my mom who was up visiting from Colorado. We were in the upstairs outside bar, which is wonderful, and then we had dinner on one of the outside patio sections.

Some Food/Drink Tasted: Oysters - Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail - Lobster Bisque - Boneless Buffalo Wings - Crab Cakes - Steak Tips - Classic Caesar - Classic New England Clam Chowda! - Fried Jumbo Shrimp - Baked Scrod - Charbroiled Sirloin Tips - BBQ Chicken - Blackened Swordfish - Boston Cream Pie - Colossal Fudge Cake - Mud Pie

Davio's Restaurant & Bar Review

Davio's
My Opinions: I sat at the beautiful bar tonight, and it was fun - great service and a classy crowd, but for a Friday evening I thought it would be busier and the bar would stay open later. Hopefully they start to focus on marketing their restaurant before it becomes a delicious memory in Bostonian's minds.

I have enjoyed the war interior and delicious food for years.  The open kitchen with bar seats is fun to experience for some active eye candy. Don’t skip the Bufala Mozzarella Salad and Philly Cheese Steak Spring Rolls!

P.S. They offer a Gluten-Free Menu for lunch and dinner.

Fleming's Restaurant & Bar Review

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar
My Opinions: I enjoyed another nice dinner here. (Yes, they are still opened despite the slow-moving construction outside in the park plaza triangle.) Fleming's have done a great job maintaining the quality of their steak and seafood. The service tonight was more casual than normal, but I still had a nice meal ... a couple glasses of one of my favorite cabs, Chateau Montelena, certainly helps smooth any edges.

I look forward to visiting the bar again for an after-work cocktail! Maybe even take advantage of their "5 For $6 ’Til 7" or their "Prime Burger Bar" special.

Towne Restaurant & Bar Review

Towne Stove and Spirits
My Opinions:  The crowd is still coming to this spot for after-work drinks, dinner and socializing ... so come get your flirt on! You'll find people here that also frequent Abe & Louie's and Sonsie.

As far as the food goes, I've tried quite a bit of the menu and still haven't been wowed by anything yet. The bacon sandwich with mayo & brioche was buttery and good, and the beef short ribs were well prepared - the salmon and foie gras is not my favorite. Their deserts could still use some work. If the food flops,  which I hope doesn't happen, I'd still come here to drink.

They are still only opened for dinner, the lunch launch is behind schedule, so hopefully by early September we'll be able to have a new lunch spot.

Some Food/Drink Tasted: Iceberg/baby - Tuna Belly - Tartare - Crostini's - Lobster Popovers - Ravioli - Duck Crisp - Sausage & Pepperoni Pizza - Bacon Sandwich - Lobster & Corn w/Honeyed Ricotta Pizza - Foie Gras - Beet Carpaccio - Salmon - Peking Chicken - Beef Short Ribs Crisp Tender - Pavlova - Warm Dark Chocolate w/Cherry Gelato - Toasted Hazelnut - Baja Breeze - Frozen Vanilla Mosaic - Chocolate Pudding - Sorbet

Caliterra Restaurant & Bar Reivew

Caliterra Bar & Grille at the Hilton
My Opinions: This place is my "Cheers Bar" - it's comfortable since I know the bartenders, have gotten to know some of the regular patrons, and think the food & drink is decent.

I especially appreciate their large red wine glasses that bring swirling to a whole new level. Caliterra's heirloom tomato salad is a must for me because they get the tomatoes fresh from a local organic farm ... an unexpected healthy treat! My desert of choice is the cookies and ice cream. The cookies are baked in-house and they have strawberry ice cream (a nostalgic flavor for me).

Some Food/Drink Tasted: Sliders - Cheese Fries - Spinach Tortellini Pasta - Chicken lettuce Wraps – Wild Mushroom Pizza – Pepperoni Pizza – Heirloom Tomato Salad – Filet Mignon Sandwich – Chicken Panini – Turkey Panini - Cookies & Ice Cream

Exhale Spa (Boston) Review

EXHALE SPA

My Opinions:  Self-pampering is a great way to beautify a rainy gray day in Boston, don't you think?  I hear that if you look better, it helps make the city look better. <wink>  To be serious though, this is now officially my new favorite spa in the city!

The layout is spacious and the service list is rich with the basic services, yoga classes, and more exclusive treatments like acupuncture, lash extensions (look out LuxLash), herbal cleansing, and more.

Matthew was a fantastic masseuse, the first one in years that impressed me as much as my regular gent. The Body Glow was the best exfoliating treatment I've ever received, but you have to be ready for a little discomfort for a lot of benefit. It was an hour of brushing, scrubbing, rubbing and buffing ... much like I image a luxury car feels after getting detailed! This would be a great treatment to get once or twice a month.  Unfortunately they don't offer packages, but the facilities and staff are top notch, so the pricing is worth it.

Cigar Masters Bar Review

Cigar Masters

My Opinions:  You'll typically find me lounging on one of their plush comfy leather couches in the back room here, and tonight was no different. I had a great time here (again) with a few glasses of red wine and good conversation with the handsome crowd and friendly cocktail waitresses.

The humidor sells a nice variety of smoke accessories, cigars and cigarettes (they even sell Nat Sherman cigarettes - my favorite).

I like this unique experience since smoking indoors is so rare to come by. The bar scene is always fun and social. Since they only serve wine and beer, the locker storage VIP option is fantastic, so you can have your own personal products on hand.

The management and staff are very easy to work with for special events!

Hamersley's Bistro Restaurant Review

Hamersley's Bistro
My Opinions: I took a long break from this restaurant due to the many times they were written-up by the Health Department, and when a good friend of mine suggested we give it a try, I couldn't say no ... after all, it used to be my favorite childhood restaurant.

I have turned the page and now Hamersley's back on my good side (and they haven't had a serious health code violation in a while)!

The attentive service, classy crowd and flavorful food is as good as ever. Sitting by the window, you can see the super romantic outside dining section lit with tiny white lights. I am looking forward to coming back here again soon. I'm definitely getting the pate again, and maybe even sneaking in a drink at the bar.

Some Food/Drink Tasted: Sliced Tomatoes and Haricots Verts - Duck Rillettes Tartine – Black Salmon on Brioche Toast – Pâtés – Roast Chicken – Vermont Pheasant – Farm Strip Steak – Seared Polenta - Braised Vermont Rabbit with Smoked Eggplant - Sweet Corn on the Cob

Willow Creek Restaurant Review

Willow Creek Restaurant
My Opinions: Any place that gets two thumbs up by my mom is good in my book.

RIP Aspen Grill, and your replacement is wonderful!  The owners of Willow Creek are a married duo that have come from managing the upscale restaurant at the Brown Palace in Denver, and, since they have family in Evergreen, they went for this restaurant opportunity.

I had my first Buffalo Burger here and it was very good - nice and lean, but not dry. Actually, all the food was tasty, fresh and well-presented. They offered a nice wine list by the glass and by the bottle. The interior hasn't changed much, so it's still a cozy atmosphere with a great view, outside dining, and an open layout. Across the lake, you can see the Evergreen Golf Club ... the course that I played just yesterday. I look forward to dining here again during my next visit.

Tuscany Tavern Restaurant Review

Tuscany Tavern
My Opinions:  I try to always eat or drink here at least once when I visit my family in Colorado. This last time I was here, I noticed a new doctor's office on the top floor complete with a plethora of reserved spots in the parking lot.  Thankfully, the owners were neighborly, and gave back some of the front spots for the rest of the businesses in this complex. Tuscany Tavern has been here for over 10 years, and has brought a lot of business and attention to this real estate, so hopefully they stay for at least another 10 years!

The management, service and food is consistently excellent.

This is a great restaurant in the unassuming town of Evergreen, CO. The owners are a fixture; their friendliness and energy sets a great tone for everyone else. The bar experience is just as nice as the dining room, and in the warm weather, there is a beautiful outside dining option.  They recently opened up a larger function space next to the main restaurant to accommodate private parties and events ... I hope I have the opportunity to plan an event here.

Minuet

MINUET

Life is like a minuet.
It should be danced upon the toes.
Occasional mistakes are made -
That's just the way it goes.

To complain is such a pain.
To swoon is as much a bore.
I like to teeter along the way
And laugh at my love of folklore.

Sure, it would be nice to be a princess.
I may never have another need,
But to be such royalty
Is just not in the cards for me.

I like my simple life.
I feel both pain and pleasure
And when I achieve anything
I think, the more accomplishments the merrier!

I love to dance.
For motion is a beautiful sight
Where light, air and body blend
To conjure up Life.

Towne Restaurant & Bar Review

Towne Stove and Spirits
My Opinions: I finally got to sit at the downstairs bar, and had a great time! The multiple menus are still overwhelming, but am glad there are so many food options. I am looking forward to coming back here and eating my way through them.

The crowd is flocking to this spot after work for the new atmosphere and strong drinks, so come get your flirt on! You'll find people here that also frequent Abe & Louie's and Sonsie.

As far as the food goes, I haven't been wowed by anything yet. The bacon sandwich with mayo and brioche was buttery and good - the foie gras is not my favorite. Next on my list is the Burger Xtreme with short rib meat (sounds genius). And, they have an entire egg-shaped menu dedicated to lobster dishes. Their deserts could still use some work. If the food flops,  which I hope doesn't happen, I'd still come here to drink.  See you Sunday for dinner!

They are opened for dinner now, and should be opened for lunch closer to the end of August.

Echo

ECHO

The pitter patter in my brain
Is making a pattern; am I insane?
Around I go on a path quite deranged
I thought it was different, but it's actually the same.

I'm tangled in old habits,
Blind to my own ways
Myself I batter the more I tatter
In the breeze of pointing blame.

I thought I came.
I knew I came.
I should have came.
Time keeps track of the pain.

All the emotion that's stuck in my throat
Seems to come out when I'm alone
And no matter how much I choke
I can't seem to let go.

Caught in the throws of desperate control
I won't realize I know what I know.

Stephi's on Tremont Restaurant & Bar Review

Stephi's on Tremont
My Opinions:  I had a great time at the bar tonight. The food, drinks and bartender were all good! I did notice that the crowd was thin, and the bar area is a bit narrow for it to be a popular "just drinks" scene, but if you get a seat it can be comfortable; moreover, if you come with friends it can be fun.

The food and drink is very good, just like it's older sister restaurant, Stephanie's on Newbury - Service is decent - The interior is an attractive setup - I enjoy coming here for brunch and for the outside dining in the warm season ... great people watching and meeting!

My Opinions:  I didn't notice any interior changes from the construction they were doing a few months ago, but I like the familiar, so it didn't bother me at all.

The drinks here are delicious and they serve late-night bar food, which makes me very happy. Sonsie is a Boston-staple on the social scene that pulls a handsome crowd who is typically looking to meet the like! I come here to drink and snack ... I typically pass on a sit-down meal.

Beehive Restaurant & Bar Review

Beehive
My Opinions:  I only go downstairs to eat and drink, but at some point I'd like to try the upstairs because it can get loud ... just not sure if I would feel like I'm missing out on watching the live band play.  Note: a downstairs dinner is not a great "first-date" spot, but perfect for a  first-date-drink or 3rd+ date dinner!

The food is very good, service is attentive, and the interior decor is appropriately funky.  It is a very nice treat to enjoy live music - don't miss coming here!

Burtons Grill Restaurant & Bar Review

Burtons Grill
My Opinions: I started coming here since it opened because it was close to where I worked. I pleasantly discovered it to be a great addition to the Fenway area. It is a nice change from all the pub-style bars in the area. I hope this is the start of a new class of restaurants around here.

The interior is comfortable and the service is good. The bar scene varies, but is great after work or before a fenway game. To note: Burtons offers a gluten-free menu and a great healthy twist on french fries.  Also, don't forget to request their delicious table bread (it's free, but you have to ask for it)!

Cafe Escadrille Restaurant & Bar Review

Cafe Escadrille
My Opinions: I got to sit at the bar tonight and it was a good experience. The food wasn't my favorite this time around, but it's typically been very good, so it may have just been an off night. The Steak Tips were served like "beef stroganoff" ... not what I expected or wanted. The Chicken Picatta remains my favorite dish here.

This is a great spot in Burlington. The service is attentive and friendly; the food is very good. The bar is a fun scene with an older crowd, and very busy after work.

LuxLash Review

LuxLash

My Opinions: It's time for my monthly lash appointment, but I going to pass <gulp>. I've been going to LuxLash for months, but in less than a year, they've increased their prices and gotten rid of their customer retention program, something that comes off as a bit greedy, mismanaged and is turning me off.  I'd rather they start high and maintain their rate for at least a full year.  Yes, they currently charge more in Beverly Hills, but that doesn't change my opinion about their frequent price increases here in Boston, and, as a fellow business woman, if you know your price point, why not start there?

To their point, they are fantastic lashes, and the women working there are great, but there other places that do lash applications that I may now try and the self-application lashes are getting better and better.

P.S. This is a great service to get done, especially a few days before a wedding or party! They offer  bridal packages, temporary lashes, lash extensions (what I have), waxing and even semi-permanent make-up. There are also products to support your quest for beauty secrets.

Don't miss out on the outside dining before the cold front moves in. The patio offers great people-watching. The staff is exceptional, and the food quality is always fresh and flavorful.

And So

AND SO

I miss the way I lit up your face,
And the love apparent through your gaze.
There are times we went through that I couldn’t replace
And due to my weaknesses can’t dismiss as “just a phase”.

As giving as I am,
I am stubborn too.
So we are where we are
In lieu of how much I love you.

I wince at our state;
Of having to resort to desperate ways.

Our time together has been plentiful.
Our fights - tearfully unbearable.
Through it all, you remained dependable,
And more often than not, I stayed resentful.

I knew a time would come when you had enough of me,
Enough of this, enough of "we";
A final end of impossibilities.
We need to leave it be ...
